Opened in July 2022, the newly refurbished Ionad hosts an extensive exhibition about the Blasket Islands and tells the story of their inhabitants from the earliest settlements.
Thought Different worked closely with the client team and exhibition designers to create over 35 different audio visual, interactive, and immersive installations throughout the centre. With a very passionate client at the helm, each element went through and extensive concept phase that ensured the content was front and centre for each element delivered.
Swirling soundscapes were created for the different spaces and extensive use was made of interactive touchscreens to help visitors explore the rich collection of photographs and stories held in the collection. From construction of the Naomhóg’s filmed in the 1950s to interactive RFID objects exploring island life, this project featured a wealth of different digital storytelling techniques.
The large map projection in the Blaskets is one of the most popular features and showcases beautifully filmed drone footage of the “hot spots”. Similarly, there is a touchscreen supporting this projection that gives the visitors further information.
